Check out the original Bubblegum Crisis series before doing the revamp they had a few years back. The original really focuses on the noirish atmosphere of cyberpunk. I read somewhere that the look of the series was inspired by Bladerunner.

Appleseed I adore, but I’d lean more toward biopunk with that one solely because of the Bioroids, which are not mechanical, but genetically engineered. Of course there are cyborgs, so that one could really be both.

I’ve been meaning to get my hands on Bubblegum Crisis forever. Too many good things out there.

Johnny Mnemonic, oh man, that takes me back. Haha.

Cyberpunk writers unite, I say. :)

I would also name Appleseed and Bubblegum Crisis as my favorite cyberpunk movies. In addition to Blade Runner.

I’d even go so far as to include Johnny Mnemonic (brave attempt but falling far short).

We cyberpunk writers must stick together. :D

I’ve heard good things about Mercedes Lackey. I’ll have to stick her books on my already enormous to-be-read pile.

I agree, cyberpunk appeals to me because of that noir feel. I adore Bladerunner, Dark City and Ghost in a Shell to name just a few movies. The more books I find like that the better.

Glad to hear you’ll be looking into the Deep. I hope you enjoy it. And thank you for the comment, it’s nice to see some activity around here. :)

The SERRAted Edge series by Mercedes Lackey would probably fall under the “Elfpunk” category, too.

Personally, I’m still a fan of cyberpunk. In addition to all the human-tech interfacing, I’m fascinated at the dark, underbelly/noir-ish goings on in such stories. I enjoy reading about the alienated loners.

But that’s just me, of course.

BTW–the Deep sounds cool. I’ll be checking it out.
